The Naturals (The Naturals #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The Naturals is the first in a new series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. The FBI starts a crime new program that brings together teens who have different types of skills. Cassie is a skilled profiler, she is a natural at reading people and she’s recruited to join the new program. The FBI asks the teen to study cold cases, but as they progress in their training, something dark and sinister begins to unravel and it will take all of Cassie’s profiling skills and the other teens’ skills to ensure they survive.
This is a book that will give you goosebumps from the moment you pick it up. Each teen that joins the program has their own secret and Barnes does a wonderful job weaving their secrets and the story together.
A different contemporary YA, this book is extremely well written. Barnes creates a scary story that really made me creeped out. The story is completely riveting and the characters are engaging. I enjoyed every character and I liked that they each their unique characteristics and quirks.
I found each character to be intriguing and yet still a completely mystery. There were so many twists and turns in the book that I couldn’t put it down. I found myself getting goosebumps and really feeling the intensity of different situations. Seriously one of the best YA mystery books I’ve read. 4/5 stars
